FACUNDO’S HOT 20

I said it once in 2022, twice in 2023 and now for a third time in 2025. Selena Gomez just has the power to make music that describes how I am feeling just right. And this year was not exception. Sunset Blvd is, by far, my favourite song released this year. Every time it comes on, I just feel happy and I want to share that happiness with someone very special to me (if you are reading this, yes, it’s you).

I will be honest, when I said I Love You First (2025) was first announced, I was a bit skeptical because I had never listened to Benny Blanco’s music before, but I am very happy to admit that he proved me wrong. The album is just fantastic, and it shows a new face of Selena’s music that we had never seen before, and, finally, we got some happy Selena music!

When I first heard “Show me your pretty, I’ll show you mine” in the last chorus of the song, I instantly knew this was going to be my favourite track off MAYHEM (2025). This song really resonates with me, and it produces that same sensation that I get when listening to Sunset Blvd., but instead of happiness it is a certain rage, directed at nobody in particular. I guess it is the same rage that Gaga felt when writing this song, and that is shown through her voice on the song.

My immediate thought when I first saw the music video for this song was “Is that Wisteria Lane?” because it looks very much like it. The song is a stark contrast to that visual – and I would argue so was Desperate Housewives’ plot, so it fits – and I was not exactly thinking of those visuals when I heard it for the first time, nor any times after. However, Disease is a great song and – you can come back at me for this – even better than the next single off the album, so I am very happy with the spot it has.

This song really grew on me after seeing Gagachella with my boyfriend – an amazing show by the way, and I do hope I get to see The MAYHEM Ball live next year – who thinks that this is the best song of the album (I mean, its top 3 for sure…). Again, interestingly, Gaga on this track achieves the same feat that Selena does (or maybe it is not a feat at all and I’m just that predictable).

Please do not interpret my comment on Disease as me saying that this song is not good – because it is! but a lot of people have commented how this should have been the first single instead of Disease, and frankly, I could not disagree more. Abracadabra is a great, great song – and so is the accompanying music video that is a literal throwback to the Born This Way (2011) and ARTPOP (2013) eras – but is not better than Disease, hence why the lower position in the chart.

“I’ll take you to the garden of Eden” well, she certainly did with this song. It is a great track, the best non-single after Perfect Celebrity in my humble opinion, and it pairs exceptionally well with it: When I listen to them, I do so in tandem, and I never skip the other because otherwise it feels rather incomplete, like I am missing half of the picture.

This song is just… FUN! I love Pop for the sake of Pop – I am a firm believer that art can totally be just for the sake of art, and that there is NOTHING wrong with that. It would make a great piece for a musical, and the live performance at Gagachella was again, just amazing.

If the song is asking about how bad I want this song, the answer is: A LOT. What a great tune. I can only imagine of hearing it on The MAYHEM Ball and screaming it at the top of my lungs.

All I have to say for this song is, we all know what the love drug is, and that it is impressive that Gaga was able to write as song about it. That’s it, that’s the thought.

I’m sorry but HELLO? Why is everyone sleeping on this HIT? It’s such a good song! It also pairs perfectly with Perfect Celebrity, together they feel like two sides of the same mirror: one about how we consume celebrity, and this one about what it costs to be it. Also, does anyone else also think that Shadow from the Sonic franchise listens to this song while he runs? (Go Shadow….).

The budget for the video was a dollar, but Selena, Benny and Gracie had a dream: To create a catchy pop song, and they succeeded. It is just FUN! And I love a fun song. The version with just Selena on the track is also very good, but I think that the inclusion of Gracie – which I had never followed before, to be honest – is a very nice addition that makes the song even better.

I don’t think anyone – including me – would have guessed that this song would still be rocking it in 2025. I know the reception to Single Soon (2023) was mixed (just to be nice) but I just adore this song. It’s a feel-good song that literally came a month before I broke up with someone who I was already feeling like this when the song came out. Selena and I are so connected – wishful thinking.

When Selena said that she was done with sad pop, I guess she had already finished this song. What a beautiful, raw and personal ballad, pretty much what Selena does best. I love it and I was so moved the first time I listened to it, and it still gives me goosebumps when listening to it – it is doing it right now, even. I guess everyone has felt like this at some point in their lives, so it is very easy to relate to the mood of this song.

I am the only one that is reminded of Swine every time I listen to this song? It is like Gaga said, ok let’s make this song again but on the style of MAYHEM. I absolutely love it, just as much as I also love Swine.

We are back to Sad Selena™, and I am here for it. This song is vulnerable and soft, a stark contrast to the previous tracks. It talks about the exhaustion of being strong all the time, which is something I think we can all relate to. Her lower register on the verses is gorgeous. I also like that carries the ballad energy, but it is a more up-tempo song, so in a way it sounds very refreshing.

This feels like if a lost track from The Fame Monster (2009) had a baby with a Thriller (1983) demo. It has that disco-goth vibe that the entire of Mayhem is going for, which for me is one of the year’s albums – and this Hot 20 edition seems to largely agree.

Funny that this one sits atop 360 considering it is Selena’s brat. She literally had Charlie produce this one, and it shows. I would never have thought Selena would even attempt a song like this, but I am so happy she did! It is my version of a club song, and I couldn’t be happier that it exists.

brat (2024) summer might be over, but the impact of this song is forever. Charli XCX just knows how to make a beat that scratches the brain just right. “I’m everywhere, I’m so Julia” so iconic! It’s short, punchy, and impossible to listen to just once, you gotta have it on repeat.

I tried to resist Chappell Roan, I really did. I thought it was just hype. But then I heard the bridge of this song. “You’d have to stop the world just to stop the feeling” are you kidding me? The vocal power, the drama, the 80s synth-pop perfection. It is undeniable. I was late to the party, but now I am fully on board. A classic in the making.
